Customer Reviews
“Well I feel like I robbed someone. Bought the Used Like New for under $100. It arrived in original packaging and didn’t look like it was ever open. Its really cold right now but I put it in one of my warm rooms. Turned it on. In a few minutes the compressor kicked on and it was blowing ice cold air. If you can grab a used like new do it. I actually bought a second one as I couldn’t pass up the deal!We will see how long it lasts but I can say it came in great condition and worked as it should.”
“It takes a little getting used to because it seems to reset to the ‘auto’ position after it’s been turned off, and I like the fan on high even though that’s a little noisy. Quality of the machine overall is good. The ECO setting is perfect – both the fan and compressor shut off when the temp is reached (as opposed to most window units that the fan stays in all the time and just the compressor kicks off ). It fits a single window well, though the self stick weather stripping did not stay stuck. I wound up caulking around it and figured it would be easy enough to clean off when we remove it for the winter. The buttons are hard to read, mainly because my windows are low, but I took a picture of the control panel so I can blow it up on my phone and determine what light is actually lit. I think the writing on the label could be a bit darker and the LED lights could be a bit brighter. (I swear, I’m not going blind!)Overall, it’s definitely worth the money I spent. Not sure if they recommend a dedicated circuit, but I think that should be the case. It draws quite a bit of power when the compressor kicks in.”

Customer Reviews
“Works great so far. We’ve had it for several months. It does leak a TON of condensation (in very humid South Texas), so you’ll need something under it outside. We just put a plant pot, and that looks/works fine. As for cooling, it makes our living area cold when it’s 90°+ outside, so I’d say it works. It’s not going to cool a whole house though. We have one in the living area, one in a bedroom, and we need one in another bedroom at the other end of the house. Three would keep a 3 bed house cold.”
“I bought this for my garage. I live in Alabama. It is March 7, 2023 and was 86 degrees today. This air conditioner was delivered today, so you know I had to install it! Packaging was easy to remove. Now, I must have the world’s smallest window in my garage. It’s an old, metal frame window. When I read the description, it seemed like it would fit perfectly after measuring my window. The unit itself fit no problem. The issue was the side panels. It was just like an inch too big horizontally to fit my window. However, I remedied this issue by cutting an inch off of the left and right panel frames. Doing this allowed it to fit perfectly. The height was fine. The screws it comes with are kind of junk, but they work for what you need. Also, the mounting brackets didnt work for me, but again, I have some crazy windowns, apparently. So I made my modifications, installed it, and turned it on. Initially, it made a lot of noise kicking on the first time. Now it’s quite quiet. It’s blowing out some seriously cold air. I am in the process of insulating my garage (already did the garage doors, working on throwing up the panels on the rafters). I think this is going make working on my cars during the summer exponentially better. I don’t know how it will do in the full blown summer yet, but I have high hopes. It will at least be tolerable. I’ll update in a few months if anything goes wrong with it. Side note: if you want to insulate your garage with insulation panels, go to Lowes over home depot. I got Poly Pro 3/4″ thick 4′ x 8′ panels for approx. $15 a piece. Just use a sharp utility knife to cut it and gorilla glue hot glue sticks to mount it to your garage door panels (you’ll need to put blocks of the insulation panels on the garage doors before you install your cut panels or else the height won’t be right. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you go to do it.) Thank me later.”

“This has saved our lives this past summer. It was kind of hard to install, mainly cause we had no clue what we were doing, but we have had zero issues with it and it has cooled down not only our room but it seems like our whole apartment as well.”
“Delivery 5 stars, ease of installation 5 stars, overall performance since being installed 5 stars. Far above my 3 yr old Frigidaire that died a sudden death after only 3 to 4 years. Complete Buying Guide for Window Ac With Heat
Essential Factors We Consider
When evaluating the best window AC with heat, we focus on **cooling and heating capacity (BTUs)**, energy efficiency ratings, installation requirements, noise levels, and smart features. Room size compatibility is crucial—too little BTU means weak performance; too much wastes energy. Look for units with **high SEER or CEER ratings** for lower electricity bills. Noise matters if placed in bedrooms, so opt for models rated below 50 decibels. Smart connectivity, remote controls, and timer functions add convenience, especially for renters or tech-savvy users.
Budget Planning
Window ACs with heat range widely in price—from under $150 for basic models like the Midea 5,000 BTU up to $600+ for premium smart units like the Soleus over-the-sill. Consider not just the upfront cost but long-term savings via energy efficiency. Cheaper units may lack durability or advanced features, while pricier ones offer better warranties and quieter operation. Factor in installation costs if kits aren’t included. For most homeowners, spending $200–$400 gets you a reliable, feature-rich performer.
Final Thoughts
Choosing the right window AC with heat depends on your specific needs: room size, window type, climate, and whether you prioritize smart features or simplicity. The BLACK+DECKER 12,000 BTU leads for large spaces, while the Midea offers unbeatable affordability for small rooms. Renters will appreciate the Soleus’ tool-free install, and dry-climate dwellers benefit from the ventless swamp cooler. Always measure your window, check electrical requirements, and compare warranties before buying.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can a window AC with heat work in winter?
A: Most standard window ACs only cool—but some newer models include **heat pump technology** that reverses refrigerant flow to provide warmth. These are rare and typically more expensive. For true heating, consider pairing your AC with a space heater or investing in a dedicated heat pump unit.
Q: Do I need special wiring for a window AC with heat?
A: Yes—most window ACs draw significant power (especially at startup). Use a dedicated 110–120V circuit if possible. Avoid plugging into extension cords or power strips. Consult an electrician if unsure, particularly for higher-BTU models like the 12,000 BTU unit.
Q: How often should I clean my window AC?
A: Clean the **air filter every 2–4 weeks** during heavy use. Remove dust buildup from coils annually or biannually. Regular cleaning improves efficiency, reduces odors, and extends lifespan. Check our guide on Best AC Cleaning Kit For Window AC for detailed steps.
Q: Are portable ACs better than window units?
A: Portable ACs offer flexibility and no permanent installation, but they’re generally less efficient and louder. Window units seal better, use less energy, and often last longer. If you rent or need mobility, consider the BLACK+DECKER WiFi portable model—it strikes a good balance.
Q: What’s the difference between BTU and CEER?
A: **BTU (British Thermal Units)** measures cooling power—higher BTU = stronger cooling. **CEER (Combined Energy Efficiency Ratio)** rates how efficiently the unit uses electricity. Higher CEER means lower operating costs. Always match BTU to room size and prioritize high CEER for savings.
Whether you’re upgrading an old unit or installing your first window AC with heat, this guide equips you with the knowledge to choose wisely. From powerful BLACK+DECKER models to budget-friendly Midea units and innovative Soleus designs, there’s a perfect match for every home. Don’t forget to factor in room size, energy use, and installation ease—and always check current prices on Amazon for the best deals. Stay cool (or warm!) all year round with confidence!
