    Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Got this portable air cooler to get ready for the warmer months. Since it’s still pretty cold, I ran a quick test just to see how it performs. The airflow feels decent for a medium sized room, and the oscillation does a good job moving the air around. I tried out the speed settings, and medium seems like it’ll be my go to when it heats up. The remote works fine and makes switching settings from across the room simple. One small thing I notices is that the water tank runs out faster than I expected during testing. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind if you plan to run it for long stretches. The cooler’s lightweight and easy to roll between rooms, which makes it practical. It’s nothing fancy, but it looks like a solid pick for keeping cool when summer finally shows up.”

Customer Review: “Actually, I got a whole unit.Comes with 3 small ice packs that you load into the machine and it blows the air over it to cool.So a more passive way for cooling. For small room.”

    Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Well I feel like I robbed someone. Bought the Used Like New for under $100. It arrived in original packaging and didn’t look like it was ever open. Its really cold right now but I put it in one of my warm rooms. Turned it on. In a few minutes the compressor kicked on and it was blowing ice cold air. If you can grab a used like new do it. I actually bought a second one as I couldn’t pass up the deal!We will see how long it lasts but I can say it came in great condition and worked as it should.”

Customer Review: “It takes a little getting used to because it seems to reset to the “auto” position after it’s been turned off, and I like the fan on high even though that’s a little noisy. Quality of the machine overall is good. The ECO setting is perfect – both the fan and compressor shut off when the temp is reached (as opposed to most window units that the fan stays in all the time and just the compressor kicks off ). It fits a single window well, though the self stick weather stripping did not stay stuck. I wound up caulking around it and figured it would be easy enough to clean off when we remove it for the winter. The buttons are hard to read, mainly because my windows are low, but I took a picture of the control panel so I can blow it up on my phone and determine what light is actually lit. I think the writing on the label could be a bit darker and the LED lights could be a bit brighter. (I swear, I’m not going blind!)Overall, it’s definitely worth the money I spent. Not sure if they recommend a dedicated circuit, but I think that should be the case. It draws quite a bit of power when the compressor kicks in.”

    Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Works great so far. We’ve had it for several months. It does leak a TON of condensation (in very humid South Texas), so you’ll need something under it outside. We just put a plant pot, and that looks/works fine. As for cooling, it makes our living area cold when it’s 90°+ outside, so I’d say it works. It’s not going to cool a whole house though. We have one in the living area, one in a bedroom, and we need one in another bedroom at the other end of the house. Three would keep a 3 bed house cold.”

Customer Review: “I bought this for my garage. I live in Alabama. It is March 7, 2023 and was 86 degrees today. This air conditioner was delivered today, so you know I had to install it! Packaging was easy to remove. Now, I must have the world’s smallest window in my garage. It’s an old, metal frame window. When I read the description, it seemed like it would fit perfectly after measuring my window. The unit itself fit no problem. The issue was the side panels. It was just like an inch too big horizontally to fit my window. However, I remedied this issue by cutting an inch off of the left and right panel frames. Doing this allowed it to fit perfectly. The height was fine. The screws it comes with are kind of junk, but they work for what you need. Also, the mounting brackets didnt work for me, but again, I have some crazy windowns, apparently. So I made my modifications, installed it, and turned it on. Initially, it made a lot of noise kicking on the first time. Now it’s quite quiet. It’s blowing out some seriously cold air. I am in the process of insulating my garage (already did the garage doors, working on throwing up the panels on the rafters). I think this is going make working on my cars during the summer exponentially better. I don’t know how it will do in the full blown summer yet, but I have high hopes. It will at least be tolerable. I’ll update in a few months if anything goes wrong with it. Side note: if you want to insulate your garage with insulation panels, go to Lowes over home depot. I got Poly Pro 3/4″ thick 4′ x 8′ panels for approx. $15 a piece. Just use a sharp utility knife to cut it and gorilla glue hot glue sticks to mount it to your garage door panels (you’ll need to put blocks of the insulation panels on the garage doors before you install your cut panels or else the height won’t be right. You’ll know what I’m talking about if you go to do it.) Thank me later.”

    Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “As a preface: I consider myself a veteran of the “custom DIY” foam struggle. My previous attempt involved hand-cutting poster board and foam in 90-degree heat while solo-installing an 80lb, 12,000 BTU beast. Because that rushed job was subpar, my New England winter was full of unacceptable drafts and a humidifier that couldn’t keep up. Since I refuse to lug that 80lb unit to a basement storage in another building every year, I needed a real solution. This kit was it.It took me about 1.5 hours. Be warned: the materials are soft, squishy foam with vinyl backing. It is not “fun” to cut, especially trimming down millimeters of soft material because you don’t like how it looks on the test fit. For most people, you’ll likely be restricted to scissors and/or a utility knife.- I recommend ditching the scissors.. Scissors will compress the foam before actually cutting, leading to jagged edges. Use a utility knife with multiple light passes. Let the blade do the work, or you’ll bunch the foam and end up with a mess (or a bandage).- I recommend cutting 1/8″ (inch) wider/taller than your actual measurement. I tried 2/8″ at first, and it looked like a crumpled accordion in the test fit. 1/8″ inch provides a perfect, snug “wedge” fit.- I actually found the adhesive unnecessary; the pieces fit so snugly that they stayed in place on their own.The quality is good for what it is. The thickness is legitimately sufficient to keep the frigid New England air outside where it belongs. It costs about the same as my failed “custom” setup but looks significantly less “unsightly.” Value is definitely here.Bonus: My window frame is 32.5″, and AC is 24″ wide. The 36″ kit yielded me enough extra materials to insulate the bottom of the AC as well.Godspeed with your installations. May your cuts be straighter than mine.”

Customer Review: “I live in an environment that’s very muggy/humid in the summer, yet chilly in the winter… So anytime in the summer that my window unit isn’t running, it feels humid in that room because of the paper thin window unit seals, and in the summer, I have to fully remove the window unit because it essentially makes my room feel like the artic tundra. This item has already made such a difference in the ONE WEEK that I’ve had it installed. The insulation panels are thick and secure, easy to cut, and block out all humidity from outside… So I anticipate that having this installed will also save me some money on my power bill now that A/C & heat can’t seep through the window unit cracks and thin lining. I highly recommend this product! Easy to install, great look, and fair price!”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Cheap Window Ac

    Essential Factors We Consider

When evaluating the best cheap window AC, we prioritize **BTU rating**, **energy efficiency**, **installation ease**, and **customer feedback**. The BTU (British Thermal Unit) determines how much space the unit can cool—too low, and it won’t chill adequately; too high, and it wastes energy. Look for models with high CEER ratings to save on electricity bills. Installation should require minimal tools, and reviews help us gauge real-world reliability and performance.

    Budget Planning

Affordable window ACs typically range from $150 to $350 depending on size and features. While you might find cheaper options below $150, they often lack durability or efficiency. Investing in a mid-range model like the Midea 5,000 BTU or BLACK+DECKER portable unit offers the sweet spot between cost and capability. Don’t forget to factor in potential savings from energy-efficient designs and accessories like insulation panels.

    Final Thoughts

The best cheap window AC balances performance, price, and practicality. Whether you choose a compact evaporative cooler, a Wi-Fi-enabled portable unit, or a traditional window-mounted model, focus on your room size, climate, and whether you need smart features. Pairing your AC with insulation panels can further enhance efficiency and comfort.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What size window AC do I need for my room?

A: Multiply your room’s square footage by 20 to estimate BTUs needed. For example, a 250 sq ft room requires about 5,000 BTU. Always round up slightly for hotter climates or direct sun exposure.

Q: Can I install a window AC myself?

A: Yes! Most affordable window ACs come with mounting kits and clear instructions. Ensure your window can support the unit’s weight and that you can securely attach the exterior grille.

Q: Do cheap window ACs consume more electricity?

A: Not necessarily. Look for ENERGY STAR certified models or those with high CEER ratings. Modern budget units often include auto-shutoff, timers, and eco-modes to minimize energy use.

Q: Are portable ACs better than window units for rentals?

A: Portable ACs are ideal for renters since they don’t require permanent installation. However, they usually need an exhaust hose and window kit. Some, like the BLACK+DECKER Wi-Fi model, offer superior flexibility and features compared to basic window units.

Q: How often should I clean my window AC?

A: Clean or replace the filter every 2–4 weeks during heavy use. Regular cleaning prevents mold buildup, maintains airflow, and keeps your system running efficiently. See our guide on Best AC Cleaning Kit For Window Ac for detailed steps.

In summary, the best cheap window AC depends entirely on your specific needs—but rest assured, you don’t have to spend a fortune to stay cool. From budget-friendly Midea models to feature-packed BLACK+DECKER units, there’s a reliable option for every home and budget. Consider room size, climate, and desired features before deciding. And remember, pairing your AC with insulation panels can dramatically improve performance and lower your energy bill. Ready to beat the heat? Check out our top picks above and start shopping today!
